Day 2 Update: 2024 14er Speed Record Attempt

Well, we're running a little behind with this one, but there's a lot going on so better late than never!

At last check in, Drew summitted Uncompahgre and is almost back to the trailhead. And he must be running because that blue Garmin dot is moving pretty fast.

Since we last posted, quite a bit has happened. Drew summitted the Wilson Group (Friday afternoon/evening), Sneffels and Handies (through the night) and Red Cloud and Sunshine (this morning). He was so hot on the pace that he had to take a cold plunge in the river. ;)

Drew transitioned to Lake City this afternoon, up Wetterhorn and onto Uncompahgre and that brings you up to the minute with his progress.

A really huge thank you to Glen M. from the 14er Community who is doing such an amazing job helping our crew track and record Drew's segments and pace against the record. He has been posting morning updates over in the 14er Forum if you want to pay it a visit.

The visit to Lake City has been an awesome boost for Drew and the crew. Friends from home were cheering Drew and the crew on from the Lake City brewery, they ran into folks from the 14er community on the trail, and our sponsor Kyla Tyler not only organized the cheering section but let the crew take over her cabin to refresh, shower, refuel, etc. Her puppy pal Lucy lifted their spirits and gave a little extra love and encouragement!

The journey has not been without some blips for the crew. Their reserved Millcreek campsite was stolen out from under them so some of them had to camp on the side of the road last night. They have a pesky water leak in the trailer they're trying to keep at bay. And to add insult to injury, the doorhandle on the trailer broke off, so they're making do with a pocket knife and a little mechanical creativity. But all in all, they're doing well, and are understandably tired and maybe a little cranky from the equipment microinjuries.

Tonight, they'll be transitioning to Creede then to San Luis where Drew will then race to get to the Culebra gate (without losing a crew member this time, we hope). Keep sending good vibes our way - we sincerely appreciate the comments and encouragement!

Just listened to your podcast interview from last year on Jon of All Trades. Great listen…you are very well spoken & have accomplished many physical challenges at a young age. Impressive!

We are tired after summiting one 14er in one day so in complete awe of you and this record attempt. We will continue to cheer you on…Go Get It!
